The Analytics Engineering Lead will build and lead the first centralized analytics engineering & data analysis team at HawkEye 360. This analytics engineering team will have a mandate to (1) embed within other teams to directly support analytics needs as tightly as possible, and (2) build a strong centralized analytics competency we can leverage to make future work easier. As the first key leader in this team, we’ll need the Analytics Engineering Lead to be both an outstanding individual contributor, and someone who can manage, mentor, and grow the team over time as a personnel manager. We expect the Analytics Engineering Lead to bring with them a practical ability to work with data at all stages of maturity, plus hands-on knowledge of industry-standard best practices for data storage, modeling, analysis, and visualizations. 

As the Analytics Engineering Lead, your main responsibilities will be:

• Lead and manage an engineering team focused on delivering data analysis, business intelligence, and analytics engineering across all of HawkEye 
• Collaborate with other directors and technical leads across engineering to design the architecture for new development efforts 
• Lead the engineering strategy for the team. Increase velocity, manage tech debt, and make strong decisions about technologies & tools that support long-term business goals 
• Set and maintain high expectations for performance excellence within the team 
• Develop a deep understanding of HawkEye 360’s business model, and support development and measurement of key metrics used by the leadership team to measure business performance 
• Create reusable dashboards, data products, data models, and transformations that enable stakeholders to efficiently access and explore data across internal systems 
• Understand and solve deep-dive data analysis questions by embedding with functional teams: System Operations, Customer Success, Product, and Engineering 

Your skills and qualifications:
Essential education and experience:

• BS or MS degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Data Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience
• Strong communication skills, with a track record of engaging with business stakeholders to understand the problem domain and find answers to challenging questions 
• Comfortable using python and related libraries (e.g. pandas, matplotlib) for scripting and exploratory data analysis  
• Demonstrated experience building effective & reusable data visualizations and dashboards 
• Demonstrated experience applying software engineering best practices to data analytics: experience using dbt or comparable tool with a git-based CI/CD workflow   
• Proficient with SQL, databases, data warehouses, data modeling, and visualization tools 
• 6+ years of professional experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or data analytics 

Desirable:​​​​​​

• 2+ years experience leading an engineering or analyst team 
• Familiarity with satellite-based remote sensing and/or software defined radio 
• Hands-on experience using dashboarding tools like Tableau, Grafana, Kibana, or comparable 
• Hands-on experience navigating and querying Snowflake, PostgreSQL, InfluxDB, Elasticsearch, or similar databases/data warehouses 

Base Salary Range: $130,000 - $180,000 annually

HawkEye 360 offers a compensation package that includes a competitive base salary plus annual performance bonus and benefits. We consider many factors when determining salary offers, such as candidate's work experience, education, training & skills, as well as market and business considerations. We are also open to considering candidates with experience and qualifications at a different level than required in a job posting, which may affect the compensation package offered.
