Description

HawkEye 360 is currently seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join the Space Team. The mission of the Space Team is to build, test, launch, operate and maintain a constellation of small commercial satellites. This group is also responsible for building and operating a segment of ground stations to provide communications with these satellites. Satellite clusters and ground segments provide the platform for RF data collection that is essential to HawkEye 360’s core business.

HawkEye 360 is looking for a candidate with good technical leadership and problem-solving skills, who is creative and has a passion for working with and developing new innovative technology.

As the Lead Software Engineer - Space, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Manage and lead the Space software team in developing our ground-station infrastructure, with a strong focus on automated operations of the satellites.
  • Manage the design and development of a new ground-station infrastructure to include building and testing client-server applications and designing REST APIs.
  • Be able to read ICDs provided by our Satellite bus providers and be able to turn that into functioning code capable of issuing commands to the satellites.
  • Develop unit tests, and full-system integration tests for entire ground-station infrastructure.
  • Help maintain and operate the satellites while building out the automated operations systems.
  • Coach and mentor the software team and delegate assignments as needed.

Your skills and qualifications:
Education and experience:

  • Experience leading project teams through the full development life cycle, to include requirements analysis, architecture, design, coding and test.
  • 8+ years professional experience working and leading software teams.
  • 5+ years of experience with Python programming.
  • Experience building mission-critical applications and supporting remote hardware.
  • Experience building REST API’s using frameworks like Flask/FastAPI
  • Experience with Asynchronous messaging, ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ
  • Experience with ORB, RDMS and NoSQL databases: SQLAlchemy, Postgres, MongoDB
  • Experience with version control such as git.

  • Experience with Ansible, Docker and Kubernetes.
  • A curious outlook – willingness to learn new things and solutions to fit the problem

  • Dedication – sometimes we all need to burn a little midnight oil to get the job done
  • Experience programming in Java/C/C++.
