Description

HawkEye 360 is seeking a Director, Electrical Engineering to lead our team of RF and Electrical Engineers. The Space Team’s mission is to design, build, and test small commercial satellites that provide revolutionary RF geospatial analytics.

You will oversee the end-to-end electrical design of our spacecraft buses and RF payloads (including SDR’s, RF front ends, and antennas). You will also provide technical mentorship for digital, analog, and power electronics while driving operational excellence of the department—managing priorities, improving test practices, overseeing contract manufacturers, and ensuring seamless integration across the electrical, mechanical, software, payload, and systems engineering teams.

We’re looking for a technically strong, solutions-oriented engineer with hands-on RF experience, creative problem-solving skills, and a passion for advancing space-based RF technology.


As the Director, Electrical Engineering , your main responsibilities will be:
  • Oversee the design of digital, analog, and power electronics for satellite flight hardware. Design, review and approve schematics, block diagrams, PCB layouts, and Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
  • Work closely with PCB Contract Manufacturers (CMs) to ensure quality control and timely delivery of flight hardware.
  • Oversee first article hardware unit testing, which also includes test inventory management, reception inspection, burn-in testing, thermal and hardware checkouts.
  • Lead design/analysis trades for PDR/CDR based on mission requirements.
  • Support payload architecture decisions through mission driven trade studies. Support spacecraft integration and testing efforts, including the design of Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE), flatsats for functional testing, and satellite flight hardware testing.
  • Perform specialized testing including EMI/EMC compliance, RF performance, and anechoic chamber campaigns.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a multi-disciplinary team of RF and Electrical Engineers.
  • Manage resource allocation, project priority and schedules, and professional development.
  • Collaborate cross functionally with Systems, Mechanical, Software, and Test teams to ensure requirements are met.
Your skills and qualifications:
Essential education and experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with at least 2 years in a formal or informal leadership/management role.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to prioritize team workload
  • Understanding of power electronics, high-speed digital design, and RF fundamentals.
  • Expertise in PCB design and layout (Altium or other)
  • Hands-on flight hardware experience (satellite integration, RF lab testing, prototyping, troubleshooting)
  • Experience handling ESD-sensitive components and operating in cleanroom environments.
Desirable:​​​​​​
  • Experience working in the smallsat space industry
  • Detailed understanding of software-defined radios and RF front-ends
  • Proficiency with Python, C++ or some other coding language
  • Experience with version control, specifically git
  • Experience with test automation
  • Familiarity with CAD to support electro-mechanical work
  • Experience with RF electronics and lab equipment (Spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzers, Signal Generators, etc.)
  • Experience with EMI/EMC testing
  • Experience managing complex schedules and workflows using JIRA, Confluence, etc.
Base Salary Range: $155,000 - $200,000 annually

HawkEye 360 offers a compensation package that includes a competitive base salary plus annual performance bonus and benefits. We consider many factors when determining salary offers, such as candidate's work experience, education, training & skills, as well as market and business considerations. We are also open to considering candidates with experience and qualifications at a different level than required in a job posting, which may affect the compensation package offered.
